Happy Wednesday

Happy Wednesday!  I hope you enjoyed the nice weather yesterday as much as we did.  It felt amazing.  The one park that was not covered in snow was over flowing with kids in the afternoon.

Savanna still loves her toy stroller and loves just pushing it around outside.  If you are looking for some healthy mid-week cookies, we made these last week and they were sooo good!  Savanna does not seem to love chocolate so I made half the batch without chips and added in some more spices. They are soy and dairy free so were perfect to have around as snacks for all!

I also wanted to share these "G" (for Garnets) cupcakes I did for an event in Rye.  The school colors and logo are red, white and black so I did Red Velvet cupcakes with cream cheese icing and a black G on top.

Enjoy the rest of the week!

Savanna's First 1st Birthday Party!

As I previously mentioned we decided to split up friends and family for Savanna's 1st Birthday since we could not fit everyone inside.  We decided to have the friends party early so we could attempt to have it outside.  Luckily the weather cooperated for us and we had a nice day, it wasn't crazy sunny but it was a great temperature.  We had the party at an outdoor picnic area near one of the town parks.  It worked out great and we were very happy we did it there.  I ordered a full printable paper package from Little Birdie Prints on Etsy and was super happy with them. Kim was very responsive and easy to work with.  I used most of the package, the only things I did not use were the hats (Savanna hates anything on her head) and the thank yous (I already had personalized stationary for her and didn't think it was worth printing and buying envelopes).  I printed everything myself at home and it was super easy and I did not go through a crazy amount of ink.  I highly recommend if you want to add some fun custom detail to your party!

It was a late afternoon party so we decided to keep the food fairly simple.  We ordered sandwiches from a local deli and I made a pasta salad with broccoli and pine nuts and a mixed green salad with roasted butternut squash, walnuts, craisins and pumpkin seeds.

Pumpkin Breads were the favors :)

Savanna had a blast playing in the ice and any water that had fallen....

For dessert, I of course had to go all out :)

I made chocolate chip ganache cookies, pumpkin cookies, chocolate cupcakes, pumpkin patch cake pops, and sour watermelons and pumpkins.

Savanna had a personalized soy and dairy free pumpkin cake.  I took the fondant off before she dove in!

We cannot wait to celebrate again!

A Weekend of Baking Firsts

Last week was a fun but crazy week.  It started with my first cake pop order for the Field Hockey team in town. This was especially fun for me since I played Field Hockey in HS and college :) The Rye Mascot is the Garnets, a precious stone.... yes I know pretty weak.  I was a frog growing up and I did not think I could do much worse but it seems I may have... Oh well they are really good, undefeated actually and that is what counts!

I think the most exciting was my first Gluten Free Cake! It took a few failed flour blends and then I found Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free All Purpose Flour Mix and that was the winner.  It has no rice flour in it which is why I think it works.  I think rice flour tastes like sand. It is a mixture of garbanzo flour, potato starch, tapioca flour, sorghum flour and fava flour.  My standard vanilla cake had the same great texture and the flavor was very close. My customers were only gluten intolerant so I did not have to worry about cross-contamination.

After the cake turned out really well I decided to try these pumpkin cookies that we love and they turned out really good too!

Lastly, I made my first cupcake cake! I had attempted one about 3 years ago and did not have a lot of success and put it on the back burner. Someone asked me to do one last week and I was really excited to finally be able to complete one!

Little Miss Party Planner Events

I wanted to share some pretty amazing parties with you today.  Seri and Michelle over at Little Miss Party Planner, have been quite busy this spring and they have been keeping me busy as well :) I have highlighted their dessert tables here, but you should definitely head to their website to check all the details out!

I love all their parties, but the first may be current favorite, A Preppy Little First Birthday Party. They didn't do the typical large first birthday cake, instead they made a beautiful and personalized dessert table with a lot of little yummy treats.

Carrot Cake "Ice-Cream Cones"

Gold Painted Cake Pops

Don't you just love their gold spray painted Ball Jars!  I want these all over my home (when I have one :) )

I love these color me cookies from Eleni's , what a fun activity/favor for the kids at the party!

I will continue with First Birthday Parties and share this simple but beautiful first birthday party for a little Gabrielle.

Mazzy's Milk Bar was such a fun and unique theme for a 3rd birthday party and had so many amazing details!

How cute are the cow covers for the cake pops!

Cookie Pops!

Oreo Cookie Cupcakes

Next is a fun Poker themed party for an 8 year old boy.  Cupcakes with playing card toppers, playing card, heart and spade fondant cookies and a cake just for the birthday boy.

Along the same theme is a Las Vegas Party for a 50th Birthday Party.  I cannot take credit for this gorgeous cake! How amazing is it???  I did the Moustache Cake Pops, brownie oreo truffle mini cupcakes, playing card and chip cookies and cupcakes with the fun playing chip/photo toppers.

I am always in awe of their creative vase / centerpiece ideas.

Lastly is a Baby Shower for their very own Michelle who is due in a few weeks.  I was honored to do the cake, some mini cupcakes and mini orange meringue sandwiches.

March Treats and Easter

We are super excited to be heading out to Chicago on Friday to visit my sister and nieces for Easter.  Since Savanna cannot color eggs or have an egg hunt this year I think it will be fun for her to watch her cousins. We stopped by the park yesterday (yay is spring finally here??) and she really enjoyed watching the kids play.  I think it will be fun for her cousins too since they will be able to interact with her more than when they were here in January (such a big difference from 2.5 months to 4.5 months).

Today I wanted to share with you a cookie recipe that uses hard boiled egg yolks.  It would be great for your leftover easter eggs, but of course I could not seem to find the recipe anywhere this week.  Hopefully I will find it over the next year so I can share it next Easter.  So instead I am sharing some recent projects I have worked on :)

These were for a dessert table Little Miss Party Planner put together for a 40th Birthday - check out there blog posting for all of the details from their fabulous party!

This was a birthday cake for a little girl who turned 6 and had a Ninjago themed party

These were for a Sweet 16 :)

I made a cake, lemon tarts, and glazed carrot cake cupcakes for a bunny themed baby shower.  The favors were "Its a Girl" Nail Polish with adorable bunny tags.  I matched the cake to the tags :)

Have a wonderful Holy Week and Easter!

New York Botanical Gardens and Wedding Dessert Table

Hope everyone had a great weekend and you are having a good week!  We are trying to keep busy over here  on the weekends, I am officially under the 2 week mark now (that is if she wants to come on time :) ).  My husband had the wonderful idea to visit the New York Botanical Gardens in the Bronx.  We have both never been and we were very glad we went!  It is a great weekend activity, even for those who have kids!  They have a section dedicated to children, which is now has a Halloween theme, where they can carve pumpkins etc.. over the holidays they are famous for the train show.  For adults, they have a wonderful Monet exhibit going on now and the rose garden is still in full bloom.  If you are looking for something to do, I highly recommend!

I also wanted to share with you a Wedding Dessert Table that I did.  The wedding was held at the Ink Hotel which has a stunning rooftop!  The dessert table was filled with yummy treats such as cake pops, oreo pops, mini cheese cakes, mini chocolate pretzel tarts, cookies and candy!

Wedding Towers

I have been honored to be apart of numerous weddings over the last two months.  I wanted to share some pictures of dessert towers I did for two of them.  Both brides wanted to have a cake for the ceremonial cutting of the cake, but did want a 4 tier cake.  I helped them design a tower that allowed them to have a cake (small) and have some fun cake pops and cupcakes along with it.

I will share some more fun and unique weddings next week!

Now that fall is officially here, I wanted to share the remainder of the summer projects I have not shown you!

Bridal Showers

I wanted to share some pretty bridal showers I have done over the past few months.  I have been expanding and trying to learn some sugar flowers.  These are very basic for now, but glad I can offer them and will hopefully continue to teach myself some more :)

I really love simple cakes with a pop of design (which here is the flowers)

This was a lovely shower hosted in a home in northern Westchester.  They were great and sent me a lot of pictures :)

The Whole Spread!

I did the desserts for the dessert table and they did a fabulous job putting it together.  There were a variety of mini sandwich cookies, berry pie bars, cupcakes, cakepops and mini peach and berry tarts!

This is not a great picture but I wanted to show you the cute cupcake designs upclose.  The bride to be just got a scooter and the invitation had a scooter and balloons on it so we matched it with the cupcakes.

Look how beautiful the tables were and such cute favors!

These were cupcakes for a shower that I put their edible logo on

Another simple cake with some edible sunflowers (sorry also not a great picture!)

Another simple yet elegant bridal shower cake with flowers :)

Fun Children's Cakes!

I have been terrible about updating you all with my most recent kreations!  Once the summer hits it always amazes me how fast time flies and how it is over before you know it!  I cannot believe it is almost August.  Over the next few weeks I am going to catch you up on some of my favorites from June and July (and even some from May that I never shared).  A lot of my photos are from Instagram which is the easiest way for me to capture my cakes before they are delivered (you can always follow me on Instagram as well @kristanwatson).  I am also thankful for those of you that send me fabulous pictures :)

I have had a lot of creative request for tons of different children's cakes that I wanted to share with you today :)

The first is a cake based on the movie Where the Wild Things Are - I did cookies as favors for the party as well

The next was a fun Pirate Cake I did for a little boy who turned 2

The next was a fun LA Lakers Jersey Cake for a little boy who chose the design of the cake himself - his last name is Poses and he turned 8 which is the meaning behind the name and number on the back

This cake was definitely a fun challenge for me! This was for a little girl who just came back from India and loved the Taj Mahal so much she wanted that for her birthday cake! I cannot take credit for the design though as the mother sent me a picture she liked, but I was happy I could come close to what she wanted.

The last are actually cupcakes that were for a Build a Bear Birthday Party

Cookie Place Cards

My cousin Christine is getting married this August and her Bridal Shower was this past weekend (Christine is on the left and her sister Jennifer is on the right).

My Aunt asked if I could create something with cookies for the place cards.  My cousin loves sweets especially chocolate!  So I decided to make chocolate sandwich cookies with a nutella cream filling.  I placed the table number on the cookie and attached a tag with the person's name on it.  I was excited with how they came out!

My cousin Liz has a baking business as well and my Aunt asked her to do cupcake bouquets for the centerpieces which came out fabulous.  She gave everyone cups and bags to take the cupackes home with them which I thought was very clever.  The cupcake fit perfectly, nice and snug.  I had placed mine in my bag and it didn't budge from the cup, it traveled really well!
