A Weekend of Baking Firsts

Last week was a fun but crazy week.  It started with my first cake pop order for the Field Hockey team in town. This was especially fun for me since I played Field Hockey in HS and college :) The Rye Mascot is the Garnets, a precious stone.... yes I know pretty weak.  I was a frog growing up and I did not think I could do much worse but it seems I may have... Oh well they are really good, undefeated actually and that is what counts!

I think the most exciting was my first Gluten Free Cake! It took a few failed flour blends and then I found Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free All Purpose Flour Mix and that was the winner.  It has no rice flour in it which is why I think it works.  I think rice flour tastes like sand. It is a mixture of garbanzo flour, potato starch, tapioca flour, sorghum flour and fava flour.  My standard vanilla cake had the same great texture and the flavor was very close. My customers were only gluten intolerant so I did not have to worry about cross-contamination.

After the cake turned out really well I decided to try these pumpkin cookies that we love and they turned out really good too!

Lastly, I made my first cupcake cake! I had attempted one about 3 years ago and did not have a lot of success and put it on the back burner. Someone asked me to do one last week and I was really excited to finally be able to complete one!

A Weekend filled with Birthdays!

We had a lot of birthdays to celebrate this weekend!  It started with this cake I made for one of our friend's daughter's family birthday party. Her favorite colors are purple and orange.  I ordered the cake bunting from Especially Paper and I loved the quality and how quick she was able to get it to me.  I will definitely be ordering again!

On Saturday we headed to Long Island for lunch to celebrate my Grandfather's 94th birthday.  Unfortunately, he ended up in the hospital (nothing major) and we didn't get to see him. We were still able to have a nice lunch with my parents and my dad's sister.  We then headed into the city and visited our friends Joe and Carol who recently had a little boy and they were celebrating Carol's birthday.  They have an amazing rooftop and it was the perfect evening for it :)

Lastly we headed over to my good friend Caitlin's 30th birthday.  Her husband organized a fabulous afternoon of sailing and friends for her.  We didn't make the sailing, but we were able to meet up with them for some cocktails before Savanna expired :)

Our last celebration was on Sunday. We had Chris's family over to celebrate his brother's 27th birthday! We watched the Giants lose again but enjoyed a yummy lunch and some cake pops!

Unfortunately this picture didn't come out great and don't ask why Savanna is naked :)

Hope you are having a great Monday!

Kristen's Wedding Dessert Table

I am so excited to finally share with you the desserts from Kristen's wedding that I told you about a little while back.  I was honored to not only be apart of her wedding, but I did the desserts AND Savanna was the flower girl! The wedding was in the barn at Martha Clara Vineyards on a picture perfect day the first weekend of June.  All of the pictures were captured by the fabulous Stephen from W Studios New York and he graciously shared them with me.  I highly recommend everything about the wedding, we had an absolute blast!

For the Dessert Table I did a vanilla with raspberry and nutella two tier cake, cake pops, oreo pops, chocolate covered pretzels and chocolate chip cookies.

My personal favorite is below :)

July Cakes

We have been enjoying some quality family time and have not been doing as many cakes, but I have two fun ones that I wanted to share with you today. Both were for little girls' 3rd birthdays.

The first was a simple princess cake.  With this cake I did mini cupcakes with edible images of Disney Princesses (I was unable to get a picture of it all together).

The second party was at Victorian Gardens so I did a carousel themed cake.  The adorable paper carousel was made by Oooh La La Paperie

We are enjoying this perfect weather and having fun cruising in central park this week.

My nieces are visiting so we spent some time with them at my parents pool during the heat wave. We are excited to meet them at the Jersey Shore for a week on Friday!  They taught Savanna how to kiss it is super cute.

Hope you are having a good week and enjoying this lovely summer weather :)

Zoe's Birthday Party!

Savanna's friend Zoe turn 1 a few weeks ago!  Unfortunately, my good friend Kristen's wedding was the same weekend so we had to miss the party.  Since we were unable to go to the party, I was excited that I could at least do the desserts.  Zoe's party was a farm animal theme and they even had a petting zoo there! Zoe's Mom and Dad went to HS with Chris.  They were a different year in school but last year we discovered that they live around the block from us which has been a lot of fun.  A girl from their HS has a beautiful photography company. She took all of the wonderful shots below.  You should check out the rest of the party here, along with with all of the other amazing work she does.

Cow, Pig and Duck Fondant Cookies

Mini Animal Mixed Berry Pies

Zoe & 1 Cake Pops with mini cupcakes

I love this one of Zoe digging into her cake!

This is such a cute shot of all the other kids "helping" her :)

This is my favorite!

Little Miss Party Planner Events

I wanted to share some pretty amazing parties with you today.  Seri and Michelle over at Little Miss Party Planner, have been quite busy this spring and they have been keeping me busy as well :) I have highlighted their dessert tables here, but you should definitely head to their website to check all the details out!

I love all their parties, but the first may be current favorite, A Preppy Little First Birthday Party. They didn't do the typical large first birthday cake, instead they made a beautiful and personalized dessert table with a lot of little yummy treats.

Carrot Cake "Ice-Cream Cones"

Gold Painted Cake Pops

Don't you just love their gold spray painted Ball Jars!  I want these all over my home (when I have one :) )

I love these color me cookies from Eleni's , what a fun activity/favor for the kids at the party!

I will continue with First Birthday Parties and share this simple but beautiful first birthday party for a little Gabrielle.

Mazzy's Milk Bar was such a fun and unique theme for a 3rd birthday party and had so many amazing details!

How cute are the cow covers for the cake pops!

Cookie Pops!

Oreo Cookie Cupcakes

Next is a fun Poker themed party for an 8 year old boy.  Cupcakes with playing card toppers, playing card, heart and spade fondant cookies and a cake just for the birthday boy.

Along the same theme is a Las Vegas Party for a 50th Birthday Party.  I cannot take credit for this gorgeous cake! How amazing is it???  I did the Moustache Cake Pops, brownie oreo truffle mini cupcakes, playing card and chip cookies and cupcakes with the fun playing chip/photo toppers.

I am always in awe of their creative vase / centerpiece ideas.

Lastly is a Baby Shower for their very own Michelle who is due in a few weeks.  I was honored to do the cake, some mini cupcakes and mini orange meringue sandwiches.

Memorial Day Recap and Drum Cakes

Hi!  As per usual, I am trying to catch up! I just realized I never wrote a 6 month update for Savanna so I will do a 6 and 7 month one next week :)  I know I keep saying this, but where does the time go??  After Kristen's shower the following weekend we had a lovely Mother's Day Weekend and the weekend following that I had Kristen's Bachelorette in Fort Lauderdale and then it was Memorial Day and we got back on Tuesday and I had to do a 1st birthday dessert table and the dessert table for Kristen's wedding in 3 1/2 days so now I am finally sitting down :)

I wanted to start with sharing two Drum cakes I did in April and May. The first was a cake for a Fresh Beat Band theme party so I included the instruments from the other characters as well.  The second was for a little boys 1st birthday, I thought it was a unique and cute theme for a first birthday.

I also wanted to share some pictures and details from our Memorial Day Trip.  For the last 4 years, Chris has spent Memorial Day studying for the CFA so we have not been able to really enjoy it.  I was really excited for this year, so we decided to spend some time down in Bethany Beach, Delaware where Chris's parents have a beach condo.  We were hoping since it was further south it would be nicer, but it ended up not really being a beach weekend.  His parents condo is in Sea Colony which is almost like a resort so we were saved with the indoor pool!  Savanna absolutely LOVED the indoor pool.  We have been doing swimming lessons for about 2 months now and I knew she enjoyed the water, but I think between her being older and spending even more time in the pool she just had a blast.  Chris's mom also got her a little pool that we filled with some water that she enjoyed.  Despite the bad weather it ended up being a good few days.  Although I will say babies are such creatures of habit, Savanna was a little cranky by the end and was so excited when she got home :)

April Projects

Good Morning and Happy Friday!  I wanted to share some of the projects that I worked on in April with you today.  I am sorry I have not been great about getting good photos so these are all instagram.  Hope you are enjoying this wonderful weather - Have a great weekend!

These were Monogram Whale Cake Pops for a Whale Themed First Birthday Party.  I had the tags made by the wonderful Jaime who is the owner of a creative online paper store, Bushel and Peck.  You should check out her etsy site too!

I made these wine bottle cookies for my friend Stephanie's shower (which I was unfortunately unable to attend).  It was a late afternoon shower with wine and appetizers.  To go with the wine I also made dark chocolate covered cake pops with rock salt and red wine chocolate cupcakes.

I made a little Hippo cake for the welcoming of Baby Harper.  The shower for her was supposed to be the weekend we had the snow storm in February so they postponed it and had a welcoming party instead.

The Baby Boy Cake Pops were for a shower. The Baby Girl Cake Pops were for her big brothers to take to school and brag about their new little sister :)

These frog cake pops were for a frog themed baby shower.  The adorable Lily pad tags were made by Jaime from Bushel and Peck as well!

March Treats and Easter

We are super excited to be heading out to Chicago on Friday to visit my sister and nieces for Easter.  Since Savanna cannot color eggs or have an egg hunt this year I think it will be fun for her to watch her cousins. We stopped by the park yesterday (yay is spring finally here??) and she really enjoyed watching the kids play.  I think it will be fun for her cousins too since they will be able to interact with her more than when they were here in January (such a big difference from 2.5 months to 4.5 months).

Today I wanted to share with you a cookie recipe that uses hard boiled egg yolks.  It would be great for your leftover easter eggs, but of course I could not seem to find the recipe anywhere this week.  Hopefully I will find it over the next year so I can share it next Easter.  So instead I am sharing some recent projects I have worked on :)

These were for a dessert table Little Miss Party Planner put together for a 40th Birthday - check out there blog posting for all of the details from their fabulous party!

This was a birthday cake for a little girl who turned 6 and had a Ninjago themed party

These were for a Sweet 16 :)

I made a cake, lemon tarts, and glazed carrot cake cupcakes for a bunny themed baby shower.  The favors were "Its a Girl" Nail Polish with adorable bunny tags.  I matched the cake to the tags :)

Have a wonderful Holy Week and Easter!

Business Update and Some Recent Projects!

Providing innovative and tasty Kreations to our loyal customers has always been and will always be my passion, but being a mother has always been important to me as well.  In order to give each order the attention it deserves, and to be a great Mommy for Savanna, we have decided to evolve Kreated by K into a more customized/speciality business. We will continue to eagerly work on special occasion cakes, dessert tables and new products, but will be scaling back menu options and only taking a few orders a week to guarantee the quality you've come to expect from KbyK. To maximize our work with our loyal local customers, we'll no longer be accepting wholesale orders and will not be shipping outside of the NYC area. Kreated by K plans to focus on a limited number of exciting projects each week, so please place your orders as far in advance as possible. Of course, last minute orders will be welcomed whenever possible, just ask:)  Below are some pictures of projects I worked on this past month!

November and December Cakes

Hope everyone is having a fabulous week. We are enjoying our time off over here.  Savanna is getting big fast, we were at the doctor this morning and she is over 11 lbs already!  It has been fun to watch her grow and learn. She has started to find her hands and learning how to smile and laugh which is the most fun.  She currently loves anything that has flashing lights and plays music as well as the mirror.  I will share some more pictures and updates of her next week, but for today I wanted to catch you up on some of my favorite Kreated by K cakes from November and December.  Hope you have a great 3 day weekend!

Fall Girls Parties!

I wanted to share some fun girl's cake's/parties that we did this past fall!

For Emily's birthday she had a 50's theme which I thought was so fun!  For their dessert table I made the cake, "ice-cream soda" cupcakes, record and poodle skirt cookies!

For Avery's birthday, I made a pinwheel cake!  I cannot take the credit for the idea though, her mom found the idea on pinterest and I loved it!

For Chloe's Birthday we made a ballet and flower themed cake for the little ballerina who turned 3 :)

This was for a little girl who wanted a "Fairy Princess Unicorn Cake"

This one was for a little girl who had her birthday in December!

Fall Wedding Cakes

I wanted to share some fun and pretty fall wedding cakes I have done recently :)

This first one was at the Housing Works Bookstore!  It was such a unique setting.  Instead of one big cake they chose to have 5 small cakes with all different flavors.

This next wedding was at the Alger House which is on an adorable block in the heart of the west village.

This wedding was in the beautiful Battery Gardens downtown and a fun one for me to work on since it was for a friend of mine from when I worked at JCrew.

This was a small shower cake that is a little more spring themed, but I loved the simplicity of it.

This last one was actually for a birthday and a little more spring themed but I thought it was more bridal like.  It would be really pretty for a bridal shower or in white for a wedding.

Wedding Towers

I have been honored to be apart of numerous weddings over the last two months.  I wanted to share some pictures of dessert towers I did for two of them.  Both brides wanted to have a cake for the ceremonial cutting of the cake, but did want a 4 tier cake.  I helped them design a tower that allowed them to have a cake (small) and have some fun cake pops and cupcakes along with it.

I will share some more fun and unique weddings next week!

Catching up!

Hope everyone is having a great week!  We celebrated our one year anniversary on Monday, I cannot believe it has been a year - time really does fly! I had saved the wedding cake topper I made for our cake pop tower and we had some on Monday night, it actually held up pretty good!

Now that fall is officially here, I wanted to share the remainder of the summer projects I have not shown you!

This cake was for our good friend Jason's 30th Birthday Party!

A Weekend of Weddings!

Happy Monday everyone! I hope everyone had a great weekend, with this lovely weather I do not know how you could not :) It was a perfect weekend for weddings!  One of my best friends got married in Westerly, RI and it was an absolutely perfect and incredibly fun wedding!  I was so honored to be the Matron of Honor (same friend as the garden party shower) and stand up for Caitlin! Unfortunately, my husband was in one of our best friends weddings this weekend as well (a lovely spring bridal shower) that I was very sad to miss.  My lovely photographer Raquel also got married this weekend!  I was also honored to do two of the grooms cakes which I shared below (sorry I did not get the best pictures of these).

Congrats to all of the newlyweds!

My Baby Shower

I hope everyone had as wonderful of a weekend as I did!  The Grandma's to be and my sister threw me a truly amazing shower this past Sunday at Bottino, I could of not asked for anything better!  The weather was perfect since they have a garden attached to their party room.  I have also been to a bridal shower at Bottino and both times they did an incredible job.  I highly recommend them if you are looking for a shower venue in NYC.  I was so blessed to have so many of my friends and family there and I cannot thank everyone enough for their generosity.

I designed the cakes, but my trusty assistant made them for me (so the business is in good hands for when I have to take a short break :) ).

I loved the favors my sister did .  She found this adorable favor idea on pinterest, "It's a Girl OPI nail polish", unfortunately I did not get a good picture of it.

Now, hopefully she will be born before Halloween (my due date is October 28th), since she has so many adorable outfits to wear for her first Halloween!  She even has a costume, thanks to her cousin that was born 8 years ago in October :)

Hope everyone is enjoying this amazing fall weather!

Little Miss Party Planner Events

Hope everyone is having a fabulous August week!  I wanted to share some of the treats I made for the wonderful parties that Little Miss Party Planner put together this spring and summer.  I have included the links for each party so you can check out their entire spread and beautiful decorations!

For a 30th birthday party on a boat in April, I made mini lemon meringue tarts, white chocoalte covered oreos, cheesecake pops AND the cake.  The birthday boy loved Kite Surfing :) LMP did a such a great job with the nautical theme.

For a 40th brithday party I made some fun cupcakes with an old photo from when the birthday boy was little as well as some 40 cake pops!  Don't you just love the way LMP displays everything!?!

For Seri's (one of the LMP owners), son's bris she put together an amazing party only a week after she gave birth!  This had a fun "Got Milk" theme and she used some pictures that were captured in the hospital.  I made "Got Milk" cookies, cupcakes, cow cake pops and some white chocolate covered oreos with an L for Luke!

For a lovely rustic bridal shower, I made some chocolate espresso cookies, pie pops and purple glitter cake pops!

We both share the same wonderful and talented photographer, Raquel, from Raquel Bianca Creative, and Raquel's sisters asked LMP to plan her Bridal Shower.  LMP centered the theme around Long Beach Island, where they are getting married, but added in a lot of cool camera props as well :)  If you check out Raquel's website you can see her cool paper design that she did for her wedding. For the party I had the pleasure of making some mini pie tarts, chocolate espresso cookies and some really cool camera cookies!

Shimmer NYC

At the NY Magazine Wedding Event I had the pleasure of meeting the woman behind Shimmer NYC.  It is a new event planning and production company based in NYC.  They can help you with any type of an event and assist with planning from the beginning stages all they way through the end for onsite management.  I recently did a cake for them for a lovely 40th birthday party they put together.  I shared some photos below.  Head to the website, ShimmerNYC or drop her a line at nancy@shimmernyc.com.
