Little Miss Party Planner

Over the past few months I have had the pleasure of doing some treats for Little Miss Party Planner (LMP).  The owner Seri and her partner Michelle both had previous careers at JCrew like me!  We actually did not know each other there but were introduced by a mutual colleague.  Together they have started a fabulous little party planning company that specializes in small spaces (for all of us that live in Manhattan).  So the next time you are having a birthday or a special event and you want someone to plan and caterer an amazing little party make sure to think of them!  In the mean time I wanted to share some recent events that they did and I supplied some treats for.

Most recent was the Girls Night Out with Benefit Cosmetics that they did for 100 Layer Cake and I made cheesecake cake pops for it.

They put on an adorable yellow and grey Baby Shower for their friend Rachel and I made gold dusted cake pops and the poodle cookie pops favors.

In the spring I made cake pops and banana pops for their 40th birthday brunch party.

Have a great weekend :)

Wedding cakes & some other pretty cakes

I wanted to share with you some of the small wedding cakes I have started to do.  At the moment I only do buttercream cakes.  I personally like them better because I believe the fondant takes away from the taste and quality of the cake (KbyK only promises to give you the best)!  I am excited to be doing another 3 tier wedding cake and entire dessert table this weekend.  Stay tuned for the photos!

This shower cake was for a wedding that will be in Costa Rica in February!

Newsletter and Updates!

I starting sending out newsletters and just in case you did not receive it (let me know if you want to be on the distribution) I put all the details here too!

It has been an exciting start for KbyK!  I have now have my own kitchen space on West 25th and have been officially up and running for seven months!  (Can you believe it!?)  KbyK has made a ton of progress developing additional products, reaching new audiences and most importantly, building momentum!  Here are a few highlights:

For those of you who don't know and have not been reading the blog, I GOT MARRIED!!  It was an amazing night that we will always remember for all the laughs and special moments with friends and family.  Chris (my hubby) and I enjoyed a short "mini-moon" in Bermuda before returning to work this month.

Now down to business… which has been super busy!  Just to name a few, here are some of the events that have been keeping me busy:

RECENT EVENTS

  • We participated in the NY Magazine and Wedding Salon Bridal expos, where I got to show off my custom wedding products in front of thousands of brides. (Very exciting and pretty crazy!)
  • I partnered with World Yacht, Hanky Panky, Modern Tousseau, AOL, Lovely Bridal and the "WE" Network on several special events here in Manhattan!
  • It has been a pleasure to participate and/or donate KbyK products and gift certificates to several charity golf outings and fundraisers.  Look for me at the Autism Speaks event at Juliet Supper Club next month!
  • I was honored to do a full-page photo shoot for Brides Magazine's October issue (see page 63). They asked me to create a "K-pop cake" for the spread, and I was so excited with the results.

ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS ASK!!

I am always so excited to receive suggestions and requests from my customers so shoot me an email with your ideas!  Here are a few recent updates.

  • GIFTING MENU!  I can now do fun & yummy GIFT BOXES.  Each option can be customized with any festive holiday theme.  These gift boxes are PERFECT for sending to your clients or friends this holiday season.
  • PERSONALIZING and EXPANDING MY WEDDING BUSINESS.  I am now able to create customized small wedding cakes, in addition to personalized cupcake and K-pop towers for weddings.  I am also doing these items, engagement parties, bridal showers, anniversaries, birthdays etc!
  • KID'S STUFF.  I have been asked to do a ton of great stuff for kids.  Personalizing treats for birthday parties, christenings and Halloween has been a ton of fun!
  • MORE PRODUCTS.  Stay tuned for more exciting developments (a holiday menu and new gluten free products)!
  • Also, I now have a DELIVERY SERVICE!!

And lastly, KbyK is hiring!  I hired my first part-time employee and am looking to add 1-2 more staff ahead of the holiday season!

As always, THANK YOU for your support. I couldn't be having so much fun building KbyK without such an amazing and loyal customer base!  There will be a special prize for the 200th and 300th person to like me on facebook:)

All the best - Kristan

Dessert Table!

I had a lot of fun planning my first full dessert table!  It was for a unique little bridal shower.  There was dessert and champagne and a suprise treat from a guest speaker.  I thought the guest speaker was such a great idea from the host!  I decided to try and keep summer alive with sunflowers :)

Pumpkin

I also love fall because it means the return of pumpkin spice latte's at starbucks and an excuse to make pumpkin everything! On a chilly morning, I love to make smitten kitchen's pumpkin butter and stir some in my oatmeal. I am very upset about the pumpkin shortage this year, it is only September and I had a really hard time finding some.  I may have to limit the pumpkin items on my fall menu :(

I made pumpkin mousse for a dessert party on sunday and I have been craving it since then!

I wanted some myself Sunday night but since the wedding is on Saturday, I decided to search out a lowfat version.  The lowfat version is not as "home-made" as the real version but besides the whipcream (nothing beats real whip cream) it tasted almost the same and took about 10 mins to make!

Here is the recipe:

1 box instant sugar free fat free vanilla pudding
1 cup skim milk
1 cup organic pumpkin
1/2 cup fat free whipped topping
1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
1/2 tsp cinnamon

1. Whisk the pudding and skim milk until there are no lumps.  Let sit 5 minutes.

2. Whisk in the pumpkin and spices

3. Fold in the whipped topping

4. Enjoy!

Bride's Magazine!

I was really excited when an editor from Bride's magazine asked me to design a K-pop cake!  It was a lot of fun (and LOTS of trial and error:) ) creating the finished product, but I was thrilled with the result. Know any brides looking for a unique cake at their wedding?? Make sure to pick up an issue of the October edition of Brides Magazine to see the full page picture on page 63. :)

Rocco's 1st Birthday!

My parent's neighbors son turned 1 this past weekend and I was thrilled to be making the treats.  It was a baseball themed party with hot dogs, popcorn and cotton candy just like when you go to a game!  I made him a cake, baseball cake pops, cupcakes, and chocolate chip ganache cookies.

Back to School.....

The end of summer is always bittersweet for me, I hate leaving the beach but fall in NYC is my favorite time of the year (which is why I am very excited to be getting married in September).  As Labor day was approaching I starting thinking about some fun after school snacks.  As a child I didn't really mind the fall and going back to school (I guess I was kind of dork :) ), but not all kids are like me and I thought that back to school party could help gets kids excited about the new school year!  I made a mix of healthy and non-healthy treats :)

I made some math themed cupcakes, "apple" cake pops, rice krispie pops, granola bars and baked apple jars.

The granola bars are 100% whole grain, made with oats, nuts, peanut butter and honey.

The baked apple jars are a fun individual treat with apples, oats, brown sugar and nuts baked right into the jar.

*These were taken before they were baked

A fun treat to bring to a playdate!

A Luau Rehearsal Dinner

A few weeks ago I received a phone call to do the desserts for a luau themed rehearsal dinner.  I was really excited to be asked to do it since it was such a fun and unique idea!

They used my stand to display the cake and cupcakes and then I made pails of sand for them to put the cake pops in!  Congrats to Marie & Tommy!

One Month!

I cannot believe how fast 11 months went, the wedding is officially one month from today!  KbyK will have to regretfully decline any orders for the 10 days (Sept 20th-30th) surrounding our wedding day but I cannot wait to come back to work for October and the holiday season. We'll be taking a "mini-moon" to Bermuda right after the wedding and will be heading to Africa for our full honeymoon in January. Thanks for all your support!

Below are some cakes I have been working on :)

Baby Showers....

I recently did some fun baby showers that I wanted to share with you.

The first was super cute, they ordered animal themed k-pops to match their invitation and borrowed my stand and then filled it with sandwich cookies and jelly bean jars as well.  I am in love with the little train they added!

The second was for a small office shower and it had a teddy bear theme so I made some little bear k-pops to go with their brunch.  I thought it was so cute how they put the little onesies in the paper cone.

For the last one I made a two-tiered chocolate cake with hazelnut filling. I made 3d little booties, a baby block and a rattle for the first time which I was really excited about!

My New Stand!

I am in love with the new stand I invested in to display my treats. It is so versatile, it can hold cake pops standing straight up and when you flip it over there are no holes and you can use it for cupcakes, cookies, and cakes!  It also can be altered to use it in 5 different sizes!  I first used it for the Lovely event and put both cake pops and cupcakes on it.  Below are some other recent events I have used it for :)

PS - These pops went with the cupcakes in the above photo - I am also excited about my new flower punch to make tags!

I am not sure where the last week went!  We went on a short vacation to visit each of our families at their summer vacation spots.  It was so nice to get away for a bit and enjoy some sun and sand.

I have been very busy since I have been back and wanted to catch you up with what I have been up to :)

Before I left, I brought the treats for the Tara Keely trunk show to Lovely Bridal.  They have the most adorable shop on West 4th Street, with an cute iron gate and an exposed brick wall inside (I am really jealous).

This week I have been working on a lot of wedding favors! This must be a popular weekend because I had two wedding favor jobs and I am going to a wedding.

Angela & Kyle are getting married on Long Beach Island on Saturday and had a beach/pink theme

Cristina and her fiance's wedding invitation had purple and green owls and butterflies so they asked me to make favors to match :)

Congrats to all!

Invitations!

It is official they are out!  It is so exciting we are just under the 2 month mark now!  I wanted to share with you an image that are our dear friend and resident Hopkins Blue Jay cartoonist drew for us (we both played sports at Johns Hopkins which is where we met).  I made a custom stamp out of it to personalize our envelope.  For all you Brides out there it was really easy to do yourself on zazzle and the best part is if you don't like how they come out they are returnable (just make sure to weigh your full envelope before ordering).

I also wanted to show off our gorgeous calligraphy done by our family friend.  As a thank you, I made her a peach tart with an almond struesal topping :)
